Smiling Goat details/Closing Time

Best coffee in Halifax, and lots to point a camera at.
Just before closing, as the sun lights up the west-facing windows, and the blinds come down.

Photographs While Laying In Bed(Oak Island Inn)

(download)

Shots seen while taking a rest before leaving the Atlantica Oak Island Inn last weekend, during a weekend trip away.

I bought the Michael Wood/Andy Karr Comtemplative Photography book a week ago, and this kind of composing and shooting has the meditative and quiet feeling I read in their book.
The book covers material from their Miksang Photography courses. Many of the principles are the same as those we use in Creative Music Workshop of simply playing/seeing. I find it a lot easier to shoot like this since I am self-taught, and with 30 years of bass playing, I have a lot of study and practice to undo to freely compose.

It's a process, and I prefer it to just doing a Genre of music or photography.

At 1313 Hollis Street, during the show "What We Do", a presentation of the Creative Music Workshop Lab Ensemble.
Paul Vienneau on 6-string electric bass, Andrew MacKelvie on alto sax.

The Lab Ensemble has been meeting Sundays since early fall working on creative process and developing skills to play music in a more intuitive way.
During Halifax's jazz festival in July, the Creative Music Workshop will be meeting again for 10 days, to learn improvising and spontaneous composition.

As Jerry Granelli says: it's music with a Big M.
Not jazz, not classical. Not funk or country.

Music.

This piece was a spontaneous composition, composed on the spot without discussion beforehand.
As I have withdrawn from the Halifax music scene, this music has filled the void for me.
